Citroën 2CV AZ
The Citroën 2CV (“deux chevaux”) was showed for the first time at the Paris Salon of 1948. The car was heavily criticized by the motoring press and became the butt of French comedians for a short while. The British Autocar magazine wrote about the car “the 2CV is the work of a designer who has kissed the lash of austerity with almost masochistic fervor”. But, Citroën were flooded with orders at the show and it had a great impact on the low-income segment of the population in France. The 2CV was a great commercial success: within months after it went on sale, there was a three-year waiting list. The waiting list was soon increased to five years. At that time a second-hand 2CV was more expensive than a new one because the buyer did not have to wait. Production was increased from four unites per day in 1949 to 400 units per day in 1950. A special version of the 2CV was the Sahara for very difficult off-road driving: built from December 1960 until 1971. This model had an extra engine mounted in the rear compartment and both front and both front and rear wheel traction. Only 694 Saharas were built. The target for this car were French oil companies, the military and the police.
When new, the 2CV costs about half as much as a Volkswagen Beetle. The 2CV was in production until 1990. Total production of the 2CV (without vans) is 3.872.583 cars.
This car is fully equipped as an export model. Please see the original details in the engine, besides that the car has an export bumper. The car was originally sold in a Pays d’outre-mer (an overseas country). After a period in France the car was imported to The Netherlands in 1992. The car has all the possible Robri accessories, which is very exceptional. Please see also the original double horses on the front (deux chevaux), for the Renault 4CV there was a possibility to get four horses on the front (quatre chevaux). The car has been resprayed once. In very good running / braking / shifting condition.
